Play from 0:01:32 just name drop probably my favorite animated movie of the moment which is Hotel Transylvania I don't know if you've ever seen that one I hav EXC I have not seen that Adam Sandler it's excellent I don't know what what about it where where do I find that hot uh I'm pretty sure you can find it on either like Netflix or HBO on demand but that one saw that one couple you know a couple weeks ago during Halloween and I've watched it before but like I watched it again I'm like this is you know when they when they really cater to the parents in a kids movie like that one got a lot of it which I was like all right this is this is very conscious and I like it the other one is that I can't get enough of I just saw that they're going to do a liveaction version of it is How to Train Your Dragon I don't know if you ever seen that one either that one is ah you know what I don't know that I have seen that one but I do I I
Play from 0:02:19 mean there are something about those like those Disney movies I get you did did how to train your like pause for maybe a weekend every once in a while maybe check maybe check out how to TR your Dron or Hotel Transylvania with the girls like they're so much fun like it's just fun I don't feel like it's a burden watching that we're about to do Moana too I think next week because it comes out on uh on uh Thanksgiving so oh is that when that's coming out good you know good time yeah I know yeah but dude that's it's awesome we're you know at least there are kids movies that I can get into hard oh me too oh for sure for sure bro absolutely just a big kid at heart obviously it's why we talk about you know you know robot art and stuff on here as well robot art baby I think this
Play from 0:03:04 is episode 20 bro episode 20 did we do it we made it we made we're almost halfway almost a half year isn't that crazy that's nuts that's real nuts I didn't think we'd be here this it felt this has gone like snap of fingers hasn't it though yeah seriously it it's just it felt like we were doing episode like three or four the other day and then I I I texted you the other day I was like bro I'm watching the first episode back and I'm like you know kind of cringing especially like the first five minutes cuz you could tell we were just like what the hell are we even doing here um but at the same time like you know I I thought we did pretty well you know for the for the first one and um yeah man 20 20 weeks later here we are I think you know when we talked about that too we're like we're going to try to do every other week not stress
Play from 0:03:50 oursel out over it let's make sure it's fun but early on we were just like I think you hit me up you're like are we going to shoot this week and I was like yeah sure let's do it and then we just stuck to it right like every week so we had to cuz it was like one of those things where we did it the first time and it was like damn it I want to do that again and just as you know the Cameo it is tradition [name] is here she is screaming in the background as she normally does so if anyone was wondering where she is even though you know at my parents house today she is she is still uh alive well and very loud so yeah we had a YouTube listener wondering where she was at last time so came in early this time she's here don't worry love it Rory what what are we getting into today brother I think we were talking about you know social media growing a
0:04:30Milestone Discussion
Play from 0:04:35 following maybe attracting business right like I think this AI space especially with these tools creatively is providing a really good opportunity not just for incumbent creators incumbent you like that but also yeah I don't know where that came from never use that Friday but also like people that are just kind of like getting into it and they're just thinking about like look I I want to be involved in this space What are what are some things I can do to take Advantage how do I build an audience on on LinkedIn or X or uh YouTube or something like that right so I think that's interesting that's where we're going to get into today you and I have obviously you know got a lot of experience there I don't think either one of us when we did start doing that really planned on being where we're at now and talking about this to other people and trying to like give advice
Play from 0:05:22 because we don't have it all figured out but we weren't social media people either I think the you know the real thing for us was just like we were doing something that we were attracted to that we liked and uh you do those things consistently enough they compound yeah I think it's you know guys I think we we see a lot of each other on different platforms you know I see a lot of the comments here on YouTube I know a lot of other people are creating whether that's on LinkedIn Twitter Youtube whatever so you know naturally this is a info share right like let's let's share put our brains together I think it's good to know what the landscape is on a lot of the platforms too cuz yes content is very I think I think the one thing with this AI stuff which is really sort of kind of been a downfall is that a lot of people are using AI to kind of mimic content like how do I re repurpose this
Play from 0:06:09 or like really like redo something in the same style which is cool that's social media but also like it takes a little bit of the authenticity out of it which is really what boosts the hell out of your profile just like when you put personality into it you know so I think you know us going breaking down some of the stuff more granular fashion talking about content creation organic following in know organic growth um cuz obviously you can go pay for ads you can go pay for you know you know media buy things like that growing organic is the long route but also it's the probably the most sustainable at this point if you get if you build an audience you always have one you know you can you can really once you get kicked off a platform for being an a-hole or something like that you know don't don't recommend doing that once you get one you got to be a little bit a little bit safer about what you do but seriously so we got a lot to
Play from 0:06:57 talk about man I mean really we could we could even you know even if we were just talking about LinkedIn which I think a lot of people here probably are from LinkedIn um maybe you're on Twitter maybe you're on YouTube but you know LinkedIn is a real interesting place because it's you know just starting off here the audience is different the audience is different from Twitter the audience is different from YouTube the audience is different from Instagram but really LinkedIn it's like you kind of got to put up or shut up when it comes to creating content because like show and like show and tell is is like the the name of the game but really like some people just show and they don't tell and I think that's probably one of the biggest reasons as to why people don't get a lot of growth or interaction because it's just like here's what I did like that's cool you know like that's
Play from 0:07:43 like posting an advertisement like a billboard from Time Square and saying like here's my ad it's like okay thanks like yes what went into it what's the backstory how'd you do it like give me a little more context agree dude I think that's a that's a great place to start I was actually going to give you a little bit of like an underhand softball pitch for that too because I was just going to say like if there's one you know secret or hack to you know really attracting people to your content on something like LinkedIn what is it and I think you hit it if you're just throwing up the image and there's no storytelling component there's no like here's my uh behind the scenes of what went into this or here was the process or the workflow or the the outcome like it it quickly Fades into the forgettable right like no one
Play from 0:08:31 no one remembers that on the other hand the point that you brought up is look if we can sit here and talk about things that people don't know educate unlock things that they're maybe not thinking about then all of the sudden right you can really resonate and build uh a conversation which is also a huge part of this because the algorithms love the engagement the back and forth so not only just the likes but the comments and not only just the comments but the shares you know and not just the the shares but getting into the DMS right and having conversations that stem from that so yeah I think that's a big unlock LinkedIn is it's got way way way more upside than most people realize yeah I think it's a good point because like I I think there's like this misconception about LinkedIn that it's like you know Drew and Rory's picture of them at like
Play from 0:09:16 a Tech conference like and you know like congratulations on your new job it's like now there's there's a big sect of Lincoln that's very educational right now and I think it's it's grown a lot because people realize that you could actually build an audience there the one thing you know about LinkedIn right is that when Drew likes something with an audience of you know 40 plus thousand it shows up on you know his followers feeds as Drew liked this post so you get more exposure just based on simple things like that because if you are you know trying to grow and gain exposure something like Instagram for example that never happens you don't see oh Kim Kardashian liked this right like that's not part of the mix like that doesn't you don't get like Mass exposure from like a sort of organic standpoint like
Play from 0:10:02 that so LinkedIn number one the the audience 2 is a higher caliber of audience because number one it's verified you have to have like a driver's license on there two there's like no trolls cuz who wants to be you know an a-hole in front of probably some of the biggest Business Leaders in the world nailed it and three it's it's got multiple formats that you can post in so it's uh you know it's not just image or video there's you know text Carousel image video document whatever um so it's it's pretty it's pretty versatile platform and I think it's just underutilized by a lot of people or just like under over overlooked um yeah that's actually the question I was going to ask you is why LinkedIn I think those are probably some of the reasons why you chose it but are there any other reasons outside of that where you chose that as sort of like the the primary platform
Play from 0:10:48 for you to you know share AI related work it's going to sound like condescending but there's like no children if I'm posting for you know to get exposure to gain business or I'm posting for you know to get exposure to grow a profile like I I don't need like a bunch of this again this sounds stupid I don't need 15y olds following me like on Instagram like that does nothing for what I'm trying to do like on LinkedIn it's business professionals like that's you're going right to the heart of it you're going right to the audience yes you have Founders CEOs executive positions people that are looking for either something that they don't you know they don't have currently they're on there looking for someone to you know to hire or they're looking for new ideas or checking in on their competition or like they're just they're there so
Play from 0:11:33 they're captive right and that's that's they're looking for something to interest them to you just like any other social media channel so I think you know when you when you think about it in those terms right like there's just you know there's there's a lot more condensed you're going right into if you're fishing in a lake right like I use this often times you don't just go you just don't go to the middle of the lake and drop your line and hope and pray that there's fish you going find like a targeted area of the lake where there's maybe some structure where the fish might hide you go and you fish there that's what's going on here you great point right so I think is is that how you saw it too when you started doing it is that kind of like the same Theory or pretty much yeah I think there's like definitely some overlap there for me you know this but I was already posting there for I would say at least a year and a half maybe before I
Play from 0:12:20 switched content more toward Midjourney AI content so you know I was already in the habit of showing up consistently you know and I I would say like one of the biggest pieces of any social channel the hardest part is honestly getting Z to one right it's like getting that initial momentum where you've got people that show up for you little bit consistently and then over time right like some of those people may swap in and swap out but you've already established like this firm base and you build you build you build on it right so it's the hardest part is like when you're first that's why it's almost impossible unless you're Focus specifically on one maybe two channels especially early on because you really do have to be thoughtful and intentional
Play from 0:13:07 about what you're posting you have to be consistent because if you're just posting once or twice a week on LinkedIn that's not going to cut it it really does compound so if you think about that over the course of the year in posting five days a week versus posting two or three times a week well that's a lot more posts over time you're going to grow a lot faster so it really just kind of comes down to you know can you can you be consistent and you know do you have a little bit of a strategy in terms of you're not overthinking what you need to come up with every time right and so I think you kind of need to think a little bit more like a you know content person or Creator or marketer in that sense and some people that doesn't come more naturally but you get that over time you'll start to realize what that is so so yeah like that to me was a
Play from 0:13:52 big part of it I was already there but jumping off some of the things that you said higher caliber but also like higher you know like bigger buying power I think there um also credibility from a career standpoint the other thing that I really wanted to take advantage of especially early when I was just talking about marketing stuff is like I feel like I'm a good marketer I want other people to see me that way other marketers were talking about marketing related things and I just thought okay well I I have S things to say so like let me toss some things out there and let me validate some ideas let me see other people's perspectives right and so like the thought behind that specifically was well I can build up credibility here social proof um I can validate ideas I can also learn from other people that are in my space right because you think about the early days
Play from 0:14:38 of probably both of our careers you were almost really limited to who was in your office your team right of who you're going to learn from and have conversations with and as social media started to expand and spand like now you can take those things outside of it with webinars or cohorts or social media platforms right all these other ways to do it now so that was another big thing there's more green grass I think on LinkedIn if you can find a niche in LinkedIn like we did early on with this stuff because there weren't a lot of people again I think we've talked about this before like you were one of the few people that I saw doing it also and I'm just like this feels like wide open right like so this this feels great because you know can track a lot of eyeballs but also can speak to this stuff intelligently it's
Play from 0:15:24 fun so that was the other piece of it and then lastly the last thing I'll add here is maybe the most importantly that a lot of people don't realize who don't post on LinkedIn is that LinkedIn has changed yeah LinkedIn is not this platform where people just drop in their blog link you know to their company anymore right and that's checking the box like people are actually adding a lot of value with content now people are feeling more empowered to do it you know I think in B2B too specifically there's a whole strategy around we need to we need to create an employee advocacy program to start you know empowering all the employees to post right because reach is so limited from a company page and people do business with people so if you can start to associate a brand with
Play from 0:16:10 faces and individuals and personalities you're going to close more business that way so you know like all those things we just mentioned are huge huge uh pros of posting on LinkedIn specifically and I think there's there's always been this hesitation right from a company standpoint where it's you know if you're working as an individual Creator there's a little bit different you know an individual business owner or you're working as a freelancer whatever it's a different conversation but you know if you're working as a company I think there's always been this this sort of fear that your your employee outgrows your brand which you know I think we both experienced a little bit of that where did um you know I think companies are concerned that oh if we allow them to really run wild and grow an audience then they're going to leave us and they're going to take all of our secrets and Their audience with them but at the
0:16:15LinkedIn Success Formula
Play from 0:16:56 end of the day like they were going to leave one way or the other so like you can only you know to me it's like take take what you can get while you have it and really like try to push it and and encourage it because you look at certain things that are really you know let's just say drew posts you know we're starting we have thousand followers let's say we post five times a week maybe that maybe that gets to 5 to 10,000 Impressions like you know a week right like if that's if that on a really good case right that's 10,000 you know 10,000 Impressions with a high leverage High targeted audience then if you're doing that every month that's 40,000 you do that over the course of the Year we're looking at almost 500,000 Impressions now that's one employee if you have impression you have 10 employees that are doing that you know times that by 10 right that's 5 million
Play from 0:17:42 impressions and that's a very low bar if you're only getting that over the course of a year so it's you know it's insane and I think the one thing too that's I think people really like they just they just miss the point and they also limit what people can do on there because they think it's so corporate and professional and you have to use corporate speak and acronyms it's like show some personality people love it yeah you're great at that you know what I mean just like be yourself people like that more than they like you know the the standard talking points it's like the reason why it's still social media at the end of the day like it's still social media I hate that when people are just you oh it's lengthy we got to be a little more careful they take some risks like you have to take risks so you'll never grow so cuz you're
Play from 0:18:28 going to be safe just like everybody else and they're little bubble and they're not going to do right and so yeah and I okay so here's one other really great thing that I think I got out of LinkedIn is you know especially if you are throwing out ideas or uh educating or you've got a topic that you're passionate about it's a great way to retain knowledge and learn right so if you've got that growth mindset and here's what I mean by that if I'm reading a book I retain a certain amount of that information if somebody tells me something I'm retaining a certain amount of that information most of it is lost over time the ways that you can really retain It Is by teaching or talking about it right and so when you take an idea let's just say I'm reading a book and I used to do this a lot with my
Play from 0:19:14 marketing stuff is like I was reading a lot at the time digest it then I would basically regurgitate my perspective on it put that out there and now all of a sudden I'm retaining that knowledge a lot better than if I'm just reading the book so if you've got that growth mindset where you're trying to learn level up you're curious this is a perfect way to also validate being on a channel like this because you're gonna you're going to see yourself level up I think that's a great point because I think we probably all got better from have once we started teaching Midjourney it was like oh I need to like really know this or else it's just BS like if it can't just work for me like it has to work for other people so you know like I have to learn what all the parameters do I can't like misquote that I can't you know misstep on certain
Play from 0:20:00 things because then I'm just giving you the more your audience grows the more responsibility you have you can't just like throw out ideas yeah yeah you have to you have to take some ownership and some accountability when you start when people start listening to you and doing what you're doing which I don't think anyone really starts off being like I'm going to have to be responsible at the point when I get a certain amount of followers but when you get there you got to be like that um cuz it's tough and you know sometimes you say things that are wrong and you have to be able to be accountable to that too like I've eaten Crow a ton of times I've said you know the wrong things or position things the wrong way and you know people get after you in the comments and you're like you know what you're right like that good point but all that's good feedback right I think that's the that's the important thing I will say there's there's two things that I that I that I find to be
Play from 0:20:47 super helpful on growing and if you're early on in your C you know Creator Journey if you guys are posting AI stuff if you're trying to get some traction it's not there you have to like everyone says it you have to get in the comments it's not as much about getting in the comments and like you know just like I have to do 10 a day to get some engagement it's like no like go in there and start talking to people put yourself out there explain you know ask some questions have a genuine conversation because then people come to your stuff and they do the same thing and that's the biggest thing that's happened to me over the course of it was like oh I put this piece of content out there's a question in my comments people are comfortable enough number one to ask the question question which is good number two I'm like that's a post the that's
Play from 0:21:33 the next post because someone asked that question they don't know what that means they not there's not one unique single person that doesn't understand this there's more so that's your next piece that's that's you know that's the marketer's mindset too right it's like you want to know what's on your customer's mind or your ideal your target audience's mind and some of those things you're going to know and some of those things you can just get qualitative feedback on right in the comments I think that's such a good point right being hyper aware then if you also you know my thing has always been like if you take a if you take a moment to write me a thoughtful comment on Linkin I will genuinely answer it if you just say great post like you know maybe thanks that's what it's going to come back if you write me two or three sentences question comment your good feeling your bad feeling like typically
Play from 0:22:19 I'm going to respond because I feel like you put in effort into doing that so I will put an effort into responding right so that's it's like a reciprocation thing right especially on there but agree there's there's one you know if we're going to get into some more nitty-gritty stuff on LinkedIn I think there's there's one thing that I found from a strategy standpoint anyone that's an AI Creator look right now this is so saturated everyone decided they're an AI educator an AI news person whatever you know like you know we we've been doing this for a long time so we just kind of like this is where we settled Drew and I were more Niche we liked our certain tools our certain Avenues that's how it is like there's nothing wrong with being in the general space where you're news or you're you know really just focusing on
Play from 0:23:05 a lot of different updates or you just want to be like an AI generalist that's totally cool yeah the one thing you you you'll grow a lot of followers if you're just posting all the the news right like we've seen those people and sorry I didn't mean to cut you off I know you're GNA you're going to expand on this but the other great part is follower count doesn't mean at least to me yeah I would rather have an Engaged audience I would rather see the same people show up over time as well as new people right because I'm retaining people but I'm also getting new eyeballs on stuff and that could be with 10,000 followers that could be with 100,000 followers right so there are those people I think with with sort of these like news updates they can grow very quickly but you're not really an expert you know you're just kind of
Play from 0:23:51 like a mouthpiece so you know I think um there's no right or wrong right what what matters to you I think at the end of the day for both of us us we were thinking about building an audience that we could engage but also build a community around and and potentially Even build business around later on right because I I kept asking the why like so okay I'm posting on LinkedIn why okay because you know I want to build credibility I want to be the person they think of when they think of X right well why do I want that well because I think more opportunities are going to come my way or this or that okay well why do I want that well because that feels like me growing and developing and potentially leading me to the next stage of my career right like go down that y
Play from 0:24:37 path and dig into that and really think about what matters and then pull back out and your your strategy becomes much more clear but tangent back to you sir you were talking about these reporters right everybody's an AI expert there's nothing wrong with it guys if you're doing it don't feel like this is a slight it's just like you you know you're out there you see everyone else is doing it too it's not not very novel you're just reposting videos that the either the tools dropped or whatever when you have an opportunity to really like differentiate yourself is if you're doing this and you're going to create other content outside of that I always found it's good to go like a second level of connection so like there's Midjourney right like yes I could get ideas across and get like people that are interested in my content via Midjourney what's the second level so I remember
Play from 0:25:22 doing something early on where I'm like I love I'm a Lord of the Rings nerd if you guys watch this podcast you see me wear the Saron shirt every once in a while like I did a post around the whole like Lord of the Ring style restaurant like I made it up but like yeah people liked Midjourney but then I found this whole other audience that liked Lord of the Rings and we're just like this is cool so I've done that with now with golf I've done that with travel with fishing where that's kind of like where all the inspiration for a lot of my content comes from but I know I'm connecting with people not just because they're interested in AI they just they cuz I do it too when I follow people I look at someone and say oh that dude likes fly fishing like oh like I'm I'm automatically interested because there's a shared second level connection there so I think that's something to be conscious of like you can inject your own personal sort of Interest into
Play from 0:26:08 business and people like that you know you see people that talk about you know let me talk about 10 mindsets for you know the whatever like 10 best mindsets or 10 best athletes with crazy mindsets and maybe they highlight lonel Messi or something you'll have a whole audience that's interested in the mindset conversation but they're also interested in lonel Messi because they like him right so there's there's more than just one service level message that you can get across I think this is interesting to conceptualize as you're building especially creating stuff in AI because you have to you have to make another connection other than just like here's what Midjourney can do like today agree you know like the images if I just put up images of a you know a Christmas tree saying oh you know parameter s D- srf two you know a th great or sorry D srf
Play from 0:26:54 like 45 36 whatever there's no connection there yet I mean but if I that on you know someone that likes uh 1980s movies or something like that you get a second level yeah I I see that a lot in your content and it's very smart yeah I think we hit it because we like travel right like I just there was something that that spoke to me about your kind of stuff too and I'm like we got a the first conversation we're talking about traveling you know and like what we like about and we ended up being at a lot of the same places like in a lot of the same stuff I'm like yeah see this is what this is what it attracts it attracts that and that's also goes back to the tonality the more you speak like yourself the more people you know that are like you will gravitate I I don't find a lot of people that are kind of outside of my sphere of the type of person that I like you know
Play from 0:27:39 I like a lot of people I'm just saying like it seems like a lot of people are like me Drew and I are wearing hoodies and you know hats today right like that's get on talk about M right it's like you know it feels the same so that's uh that's not like a very concrete sort of you know tangible strategy I think it's something to think about as you're creating you know especially on the AI side cuz it's just there's a there's a lot of crap there's a lot of crap and look you might be in a specific industry you and you really like AI well that's that's a niche is there a niche even you know underne underneath that within it right if it's a crowded space I mean so there's all these different opportunities that exist you know so just because you're talking about Midjourney you might think that's crowded but then if you get into Midjourney or
Play from 0:28:25 AI image generation in architect Ure or you know in some industry in general boring industry even you're going to get a lot you're going to get a lot of eyeballs and attract a lot of people over that um one other I guess one other note and I don't know how long we want to stick with LinkedIn but one other note just in general I would say probably more so with LinkedIn that feels like a hurdle we we mentioned you know maybe there's not as many trolls because yeah You' you've got your career associated with your profile right you can't just show up with this you know uh silhouetted profile picture and some random name and numbers and we have no idea who the hell it is right it's not a burner account but you know I think um don't be afraid to put yourself out there I think the hardest part is getting started yeah right you may not
Play from 0:29:12 be a social media person it's okay there's a lot of people that weren't I wasn't I mean I was somebody that would just post occasionally not somebody that would post constantly right or consistently and I think if you're worried about what is so you know what if somebody sees this and what if this idea is stupid guess what they're going to forget about it so fast so fast so you just get over the hurdle what if no one likes my post that's okay doesn't matter you show up a couple times you're going to start you're going to start getting I will give LinkedIn credit for this their algorithm has gotten a lot better with finding the right people to put your content in front of uh so you know you're going to find those people that you're speaking to much easier than I think maybe even some other platforms as well yeah I think there's there's also just so everyone's aware if we're you know maybe

Play from 0:29:58 we should let's let's talk a little nitty-gritty on some of the stuff too I think it's like you know done a lot done a lot of highle things here like there's things that I notice in my data because I track right like I think that's probably one of the most important things for new creators too track what you're doing don't just don't just post ghost never think about it consciously there are patterns there are patterns and they do tend to work to me that's what's I've done social media in the past and growth hacking and things like that where it's like you track and you start to notice the patterns and that's where you hit on things right so there's one there's one that I still can can't get over how ridiculous it it how true it is is that over two years I've been posting for two years now on LinkedIn I'm averaging a 60% 60% increase in
Play from 0:30:44 Impressions uh per month it the the difference is only between 15 posts and 16 posts a month so when it's around 15 posts a month right like that's what a little less than four a week maybe um I sit around somewhere between like 4 500,000 Impressions over the month if I go to 16 it sits around like 1.5 mil so it's it's that clean every single month so four times a week works a lot better than three times a week that's not saying you have to do that that's just knowing that look there's patterns to look at Saturdays at 11:00 that tends to be my best time for engagement audience you know participation personally I think it's because number one no one's
Play from 0:31:29 working I think you're sitting there Leisure scrolling you don't have calls you don't have meetings you're not preoccupied you're looking for something to be entertained so I save a lot of times my best posts for Saturday mornings or Saturday afternoons and I think 11 o'clock is a good time frame between you know east coast East Coast like in the day you know like kind of midday in New York early morning California a little bit later after dinner in overseas so to me it's like a good it's a good time but once I started tracking that and noticing that Saturdays were out performing significantly significant every single week I was like let's just save all the bangers for Saturday and then bang it would run all weekends get the same interaction on Sunday come back on Monday my account would be Juiced I post on Monday keeps going so there are little you know it's not little hacks
Play from 0:32:14 it's it's pattern recognition with some of there you go I like that so it's you know I feel like we got to give um some granular stuff away here cuz there's there's the tangible stuff which is you know how to structure your content but there is also you know it's it's data analytics it's marketing right it's like knowing knowing what works knowing what doesn't um are you do you have like a specific time that you like to that you like to drop I used to I used to not I mean I have a few ideas in my head that I try that I've got I feel like I've got enough data around where I try to get posts out by like for me I usually try to hit right before nine like that 8:40 to 9 and if I didn't have content then I would probably wait till something around like 11: um for whatever reason something around
Play from 0:33:01 like 11 seems to work or even like something around like one or two I'm always thinking about the audience spread across globally too right so you're thinking about who's up right now what time is it on the West Coast versus here also um overseas in London for example you know you're four to six hours ahead in Europe so you know just think about stuff like that I've always found that there's a nice little boost you get if you're posting you know a little bit later in the day or at night and then you've got that Europe or Asia crowd that's waking up even earlier and they'll kind of keep it rolling so come morning uh you still got a bit of traction on that also you know reposting your thing uh your your post maybe same
Play from 0:33:46 day or even the day after seems to get a little of a bit of a boost all all your typical algorithm stuff right like you need to you need to get pretty good engagement probably in the first 10 minutes first 60 Minutes um you know comments are going to be huge Shares are going to be huge yes we should talk about that a little bit I think that's important to yeah to highlight cuz you know like likes are great likes are likes are awesome comments are good the further you go to the right the more important it gets honestly so you have your likes then your comments then your reposts repost is what you're looking for really repost is you know if you can get quote post that's even better honestly if you like someone re takes the time to repost your stuff and like put your stuff on their platform like that means it's good that means it's really good and you hit
Play from 0:34:32 something there so if you want more reposts you have to think like I never built for likes like I always built for reposts like is there enough info in this to get reposted there's your unlock right there because that goes back to the educational did I learn something new or is this inspirational aspirational enough to where I want to tell other people about it or cool or controversial I mean you guys the the door is open to be polarizing you can have an opinion that's different you can put it out there you just you know if you have a if you have an opinion you're feeling a little bit risky you might get blasted I've gotten blasted a million times it does it suck yes it does and it doesn't feel great but you learn from it and it's like I can't can't do that anymore you know so there's there's like this I think there's like this risk
Play from 0:35:18 threshold that people have to get over especially if you've been posting for a while and you've been kind of just like middling along like not really that great a growth like very consistent if you look at your if you look at your LinkedIn Analytics and the Spikes all go to the same bar and they never go higher than that like you're being too safe that's that's the you're not either one you're not trying new content types where you're not like you're not experimenting with video you're not experimenting with carousels you're not experimenting with the post types you're not being you know number one that to me tells me you're the same eyeballs every single time nothing new is happening so you're not going outside of your you know of your talking points you're not bringing anything different to the table if you look at that and that that bar chart or that the line chart is flat think about think about some other things right like I had I had a
Play from 0:36:05 situation like that maybe four or five months ago I was my engagement was really bad like you know dude you know if you had I think at the time I had maybe like 50 60,000 followers but like I couldn't top a 100 likes on a post or like 20 reposts well there was there was that time where LinkedIn algorithm was really just crap for a minute yeah but it was like all right what do I do I have to do something because it's my whole business so you gota you got to look at that I think I think that a really that's a really good point I I would say I think we go through phases where we listen to somebody for a while and then we stopped we moved on we feel like we've gotten all we could get out of it or we come bored or our interests have
Play from 0:36:52 changed you've got to evolve too right there's only so long that for example I could just sit here and post style codes or you know tokens or what whatever it is like that'll work for a while but I need to evolve I need to be talking about new tools new workflows new ideas right because otherwise your audience is going to leave you behind they're going to grow bored you know so you have to evolve over time too I would say like that first year or two it's really just about you you testing trying you're seeing what works you double down on it but over time right you're going to let a year or two go by and then all of a sudden you're like okay you know I need to make a slight pivot doesn't have to be a big pivot but how can I change things up to keep it fresh and interesting because you know you you
Play from 0:37:38 think about that like you know there's a point in time where I've listened to Gary VE for a while I love Gary ve and then all of a sudden I'm just like dude I can't stand to listen to his voice anymore I feel like he says the same okay that's you know he's just saying he's just doing the same thing over and over again and that's fine because he's got so much uh audience spread and target audience with that that he's just replaced you know old listeners with new ones um but not all of us have that luxury so I do think you you have to think a little bit differently about what's in it right now what's in it you know and how am I going to recognize that pattern to your point to change it up and what should it be yeah cuz I'm you know look Drew and I both we sort of hit on the carousel craze in LinkedIn when it was like that was the best way to take your knowledge and express it in a fully flushed out
Play from 0:38:24 format where you could see every little thought process and you know hon I think if you're getting started even if people tell you carousels aren't the best way one of the best thing about carousels is people know you know your like once they read it and they see you do this for 30 pages you just wrote a book and that's pretty trustworthy to me if you're looking for business like I can explain my entire thought process how I did this why I was thinking like this and then if I read someone else that does that I'm like oh that's I like that thought pattern and that shows some sort of Mastery verse just here's an image I did or a video I did and like I hope hope you like it you know it's like I don't know if you made that did someone else make that and you just you know downloaded it from Twitter and put it up there here's the best part about that Rory yeah you know we we spend a lot of time on those carousels yeah those we we
Play from 0:39:12 repurpose those right a lot so so what I mean by that are a few things one we repackaged it and probably used it again because guess what people don't remember every post that you had you can post you can go back to the a post that you had three months ago and repost it guess what no one's going go oh I remember that post you know you might have one or two and no and even if the people do like they're probably not going to say it but 95% of people that do aren't even going to remember so why not right you already spent the time to do it you need to be thinking about how can I stretch this out we also took a lot of those carousels or those PDFs that we created and put them on something like gumroad and sold those too right like maybe those were starter assets at low price points to get up to a bigger price point
0:39:15Content Repurposing Guide
Play from 0:39:57 of something like our guide or our course right so I'm always thinking about the content I'm creating not just as a one-time use but multiple time use and so if you think about it from that perspective you're not going to waste a lot of time yeah it might be a lot of time upfront but then it's on you to think about the distribution and promotion of that so here was that I mean a perfect example because this is what changed probably the trajectory of the entire content creation thing for me was was gumroad and it wasn't you know it was then it was thinking about exactly like you said I'm going to put this on gumroad so it's got to be good enough for someone to download who's never seen me on LinkedIn but also it's going there the the trick here is guys like how do you get people off of LinkedIn to go to gumro to download it right like if you put everything in the
Play from 0:40:42 PDF on LinkedIn and I'm not saying hold anything back I'm saying add more so you know if you go and download something right you can go just click and do a PDF on LinkedIn and just download right there like what's you know why would I go to gumroad and give you my email address so early on I would put I would make a plain text version of my Carousel with the prompts and stuff that are copyable not from the PDF or you know certain instructions or certain like little additives so that there was like a value ladder as to why you would go and download and exchange your email address because you know as email marketer I'm looking to take people off platform just in case Lan decides to ban me which they have before and then you know I have somewhere else to go so like that is always thinking about like if you're trying to do this for yourself right even if you're B2B or whatnot thinking about in terms of lead magnets
Play from 0:41:28 like give away more information than you think you have to because what's the difference if someone knows it honestly like you don't have the source code to Google right like let's go let's go from a marketer's mindset too because we both think like this but the rule of reciprocity you give give give people are going to eventually eventually want to give you something in return right whether you ask for it or not sometimes right I I think you do have to ask because you're going to get returns from that ask but but also I think you and I are constantly surprised by like we could just be give give giving and not asking and then all of a sudden something comes something comes inbound somebody bought a guide or somebody wants to hire us for work or you know whatever it is that's you know those are
Play from 0:42:14 the those are the things that come with you just putting things out there giving it away for free and then when the time comes that you do have an upsell you're going to have people that'll buy in but you'll also have people that just show up from time to time that want to give you money or attention or time right or resources and that's that's really I think the strategy too if you're trying to turn that follower Community whatever it is into something larger because if you if you just get on right now I'm not going to say this is a bad to anyone who's doing this like if you have like a thousand followers and you just post on every post please download or buy something like I'm just gonna stop listening because obvious it's just obvious what that's the whole point
Play from 0:42:59 naturally look Drew and I are trying to make money yes I don't I don't ask for things Drew doesn't ask for things a lot of times like when we have something that we worked hard on we want to sell it we try to sell it but when I'm posting you know Pikachu doing drugs on Mini Max that's not I'm like not trying I'm not trying to get sales from that I'm doing that cuz I think it's funny and I like it so guess what that also reinforces who you are your personality online right so you know you're just it's it's a whole different thing and plus um compelling or not like it or not there's a lot of people that will post on platforms that you think they're just fantastic and they're and there's a lot of people that show up and maybe don't post or post a little bit and you think ah that are great right so it's
Play from 0:43:47 just another way to you know level up your credibility your social proof your reputation I mean we I don't think we could talk we could we could talk for an hour just on that about how many podcasts speaking engagements client work anything that's just 99% inbound right it's inbound we don't even ask you know people come to us and that's just that doesn't mean there's anything special about us that just means we've been doing it consistently and give give giving right to the right people so my goal was to never have another resume ever again that's the other thing right that was kind of going back to that career yeah never have res if I if want to find out who I am scroll my feed you will see everything all the work how I go about you know curating work how I go
Play from 0:44:33 about communicating how I go about marketing it's all there right like it's it's put into practice it's not theoretical saying I I grew this and I grew that great great point there it is so it's really important I think the other thing about one more thing on uh on LinkedIn I think before we get out of here is you do have to have some fun and it does stand out I will say this there is so much monotony from like heavy hardcore business on there that every once in a while you're allowed to have some fun you can post Pikachu doing drugs on LinkedIn not get banned and like you know people will enjoy it so like there is fun you can have and often times that shows your personality that shows passion people connect with that that's how you get more people to come you know to your stuff over and over again so doesn't have to be every post
Play from 0:45:20 but all right you know have have fun once a week at least you know what like try y yeah switch out the content right like and not every piece of content has to be something that you spend an hour more than an hour on you know it can be you know look I'm not a selfie guy but you know you post something with with you doing something behind the scenes and tell a little story there I mean that's easy that's light work and all of a sudden you're going to get engagement you're building a reputation online people can see who you are in fact I would say I need to probably do more of that you know if anything but yeah I mean there's so many different strategies there uh it it feels a little bit gamified in some ways right I think that's maybe also why we like it is yeah how do we crack this nut how do we get is there a different way we can think
Play from 0:46:05 about doing content again once you start to see some of these wins come in too it that's where it really gets you hooked right because you're just like well how could I not do this yeah like like stupid right like I something that was a personal annoyance of mine is when people would post videos on LinkedIn and it would be 169 and I'm on my phone and I'm like it's just so small I can't see it so when I started posting videos and I was doing something maybe like Runway and Midjourney I was like I'm going to post the the Midjourney still on top of the video on the bottom so that I can see so it shows up bigger on the feet how are you doing that by the way tell people about how you're doing that so most of the time like cap cut is the best way for me because it's super simple you know I just format it to be two by one and cap Cut's free and you
Play from 0:46:53 know for for pretty much the good stuff that you need I mean obviously there's more you can do um but you can do plenty with the free there's a reason why people like before and after photos for marketing it also works with AI stuff but the best thing about it is when people scroll on mobile which probably a good bit are on LinkedIn or on any other social platform the difference between having something in 169 and having it in 4x5 is the full screen so when you're same with images same with images and same with carels do yourself a favor don't put those in 69 don't even put them in a square one by one put them in a four five yep put them in that 1,200 by 1500 right whatever it is whatever that aspect ratio is for four five because that is going to take the take up the most real estate on the feed so
Play from 0:47:38 great Point dude it's just it's these are one these are like the simple hacks you know the this is this isn't a hack this is just human psychology it's bigger you're going to notice it more you know like that's the that's the other thing right is I feel like we you know there's a strategy behind a couple things in your post if it's anything video or uh image Carousel is that Carousel gonna stop the scroll is that front page gonna stop the scroll so for us we do a lot of AI imagery we're like I'm very selective most of the time what's going to be on that first slide right what image I'm going to use on that first slide so that's a strategy also text posts do well but you need to have a good hook you need to think about then typically will show either the first line the first three lines or the first five lines of any post you never know what it's going to be but if you
Play from 0:48:25 can kind of focus on okay how do I get somebody's attention right off the bat then if they click that read more button for example that's an actual an indication to linkedin's algorithm that you have good content right so like little things like that can I interest somebody right off the bat with a good opening line or hook you know how do I keep them reading line by line because let's be honest a lot of people don't read a toz right we skim so you got to think about the format of your post I try not to do anything with more than like three lines yeah typically just just like to break up the ideas and really kind of make it feel more conversational you know to your point so 56 characters a line that's my limit that's I I live by that one because that's the uh that's just where it stops on mobile so it doesn't wrap around I
Play from 0:49:11 personally like I'm a little bit anal yeah me too the formatting cuz I like how it looks on mobile when you can just like write down the whole thing cuz that's to me you're just scanning you're getting information then you see whatever you see and if you like something or you're even more interest go back and read it like instead of where is this in that post it's like it's right here labeled you know process how to do this thoughts whatever like extra things to think about so you can go and read it like that's all this stuff is conscious right like everything we're doing is conscious the one these hooks that I've been using recently right it worked on Twitter one time for me my hook nothing nothing spectacular not like fancy word play I would just say you know like minia Max Arrow ridiculous like that's it like a very
Play from 0:49:56 simple like two thoughts one two words with an arrow and it worked on Twitter and I'm like let me just bring this to LinkedIn I'm like I guess it works I don't know if it's the video or the or the hook that works but I mean like I'm just that's the there you don't have to listen to everyone's rules you'll see a lot of LinkedIn growth people out there don't post on the weekends no one's there that works like yeah it does always post at 8: a.m. you know you can post other times it works your H Your Hooks have to have like be supported by the other thing often times if someone hasn't seen something yet it it works better so when you see these hook guides here's the hook templates for 500 hook templates whatever it's like yeah everyone else uses them too so like just do something different every once in a while to see if something will pop and it will majority of the time
Play from 0:50:41 like cuz if you haven't seen that yet you stop the same way with those Carousel covers Drew having a nun with like scars on her face and Band-Aids and like you know in like pure Terror right like you see that you're like I haven't seen that on LinkedIn today this yeah exactly you know have I seen someone you know have I seen someone's AI fashion post yes have I seen you know a nun with Band-Aids screaming in pure Terror no I have not even if that wasn't you I would stop do you know what I mean same same dude yeah it's different right so yeah I think this is like really good conversation also the you know we're we're primarily talking about LinkedIn but um I think in general there's a lot of overlap right I
Play from 0:51:28 think that the things that are true if we talk about platform to platform is you do need to build some momentum with a consistent follower base to start you and I were just talking a lot about X recently because yeah I think we both wanted to expand a little bit outside the scope and so you and I have both thought about newsletters we both thought about x one thing with X though just going through that process recently is yeah there's a lot of people on there talking about Midjourney a lot more than uh LinkedIn I think because I think we're just in our own Echo Chambers now at this point Rory on Linkin it feels like a lot but it's probably not but you still have to get that zero to one you have to get those first few people to follow you that are going to start to show up over time while you're growing that to me is the hardest part because
Play from 0:52:14 once you establish that um you feel a little bit more liberated to post other things and I think everybody needs to see a little bit of success and encouragement to keep going just like if you're at the gym right if you're going to work work out and you've been working out every day for the last two months and you haven't seen any change your before and after pick how motivated are you going to feel to keep going versus if you see your bicep grow an inch or your chest got wider or you lost some of your belly fat and you see like one of your one of your sixpack muscles poke poking out right like all you need some of those visual wins so um I think that's just another good point and Linkedin is probably a little bit easier than some other places to do it there are different strategies obviously channel to channel but that
0:52:30Platform-Specific Approaches
Play from 0:53:00 one of the things about Instagram too right it's just so hard I don't feel like there's genuine connections there it's not tied to your career in any way whereas I felt like LinkedIn was right so it had added benefits versus what if Instagram sort of dies well linkedin's not going anywhere there's nothing that competes with LinkedIn not even close so the one thing about so like this is a good conversation right because I I think we both noticed this over the difference between LinkedIn and Twitter like LinkedIn is a more I hate to say this it's not sophisticated audience but they're looking for more if that makes sense like your audience like there's so many good people posting on LinkedIn and they're giving up like such high definition value um you know if you haven't found those people keep looking cuz they're there but like that to me like I'm looking at everything as
Play from 0:53:46 basically middle of funnel bottom of funnel on on LinkedIn so I'm never going to just post something and not write any sort of description or or thought process or like real deep like uh to show some of my work right so I want to do middle of funnel which is like really a little bit more educational bottom of funnel is basically like this is exactly how you do this exact thing do it this way now Twitter when I was you know take these 40 page carousels that I was doing on LinkedIn put them on Twitter they would not perform and I was like why why do people not want this on a thread like this is so much good information it's just like it never occurred to me that they don't care you know what I mean like they're not maybe they're there for more fun so I'm like okay but don't you think that to do with our with our consistency too because we weren't very consistent for a while I think you and I
Play from 0:54:31 would show up but we didn't have like I don't think anything like we're doing now I think for the last like maybe month or two specifically you and I both have kind of ramped that up we've been way more consistent and I say that because I was doing the same thing I I would take because you know again thinking about repurposing I had a lot of stuff from LinkedIn that I never put on X right so I I took some of those carousels PDFs or whatever put them you know on a thread in X and they wouldn't go anywhere but also like I wasn't posting consistently now I've kind of been doing the same thing and now they are gaining traction right so it's just about showing up you also have to engage with other people you need to go and like stuff right like you have to play the game it is an exhausting game but I think it's absolutely a game worth
Play from 0:55:17 playing it doesn't cost anything to do and we're moving towards a Creator economy so any audience or community that you can build right now that believes in you or likes you it's a huge win I think there's you know like for an interesting thing with Twitter like just noticing on the data playing things that like I'll post the same thing on Twitter as I do on LinkedIn I'll just make it way shorter like from a text standpoint like same video goes on LinkedIn as it does on Twitter I'll just do a quicker example so that where people can see it they're probably there for shorter format in general so that's what resonates now the other thing that's interesting on Twitter is I I find it to be a like a real meritocracy in terms of like if your is good you don't have to comment or do anything like it just gets found somehow I don't get it um
Play from 0:56:04 like I know there's posts when I do it and I'm like oh this is good like I know from a doing enough social media over two years like this one's going to work like Pikachu doing drugs like I know that's going to work on Twitter because that's like that's very Twitter esque like and I know that'll that'll hit certain audience points right so like you know you I could post that and ghost but like really it took for to me a four months five months to figure out what people liked on Twitter between posting single images of Midjourney stuff with the prompts didn't really take off then trying the then trying to threats didn't really take off what started taking off was storyboards for some reason was like oh I'm going to come I'm just going to like every day I'm going to do a storyboard which ended up being like just a really good exercise in general you know like I was do like this storyboard for this random thing you
Play from 0:56:50 know like a mountain climber in a crazy location or this dude doing you know farming cranberries but making it like really visc and pop that's started taking off a little bit and I'm like okay people like this stuff they're coming back put those story boards into Runway and then bang like you get some stuff like that hey guess what there's nothing wrong with with copying formats either that work you seen that work for Rory for example and you're in a different Niche do the format like what are you talking about you know like you can't copyright formats you I mean no no one is copyrighting formats but like to me if you see something that works in a in a format or a style and you're in a different space take that put your own spin on it you know right you've got some I guess objective data that it
Play from 0:57:36 might work right so you're not starting from a complete guessing Point too so I think everything about creativity is kind of on that point like when I started really getting into posting on LinkedIn in general I was going really far down like the hooks this was before people were really talking about hooks but like Hooks and formatting and how to keep people engaged like all that stuff and there was a certain particular style right where you need to have a promise and a payoff you know in that first line right here's what I'm going to give you and by the end of this you're going to have this right like yeah so that again that's a format that's a structure you need a structure to then build within and so if you see other structures or formats that work apply it that's a great one because if you really want to grow on Twitter like honestly if I
Play from 0:58:23 wanted to just use Twitter as a way to make money and that was it I didn't care about making money any other way which is probably dumb probably could do this but threads but the way that people do threads and like you know especially people that are doing like AI news you know sora's been out for 48 hours you know s has only been out 10 best examples it's the same format but it always works doesn't it it always works I've never I haven't done that I need to try that but if I was doing three or four of those a day you know like you can you can gain a lot of followers real Qui or like you know XYZ political figure did ex you know this this this and this here's like the the 15 most crazy headlines from the day and it's
Play from 0:59:08 like okay like it's so simple to do it you see it I don't know why I don't do it to me threads is like is comp it just takes a long time I don't it do Tak a while yeah it just takes a while right and that's what that's also part of like the great thing if you've created content in one place repurposing it is going to be I hate to call it a shortcut right but it is something that you can then move over and just maybe reformat it to your point maybe you cut it down or do something different but you're not starting from from nothing so again I think you're trying to like eliminate that load and the friction of getting started do do you do you like subscribe to the fact that hashtags are like for losers on Twitter like I I've heard a few people say this to me and I'm just like I don't even is that a thing did I
Play from 0:59:55 miss that in Twitter have I not been active enough to know that that's I mean I've always hated hashtags I've I've gone through phases where that I had that sentiment for a long time now I kind of use I send to use like three on each Channel I never go beyond three because I do know that if you put more than usually like four or five it starts to actually hurt you know uh the reach so I do it but I don't really have any validated effort that it positively affects me I just don't want to lose out on the potential that it does right yeah so that's it that's the one thing like with yeah I remember there was one point when I would go on LinkedIn and it would I would type in hash Midjourney and it would just be Drew and Rory yeah too man it was like it's just me it's just drew
Play from 1:00:42 me drew me Drew like is anyone else talking about this we really I mean that's how that's how we knew right like it was just like it was so dope but uh but Twitter's different I think Twitter is like a guys look I I love and from a strategy standpoint here's another one all right so I've you know I I've really LinkedIn is like my main pillar now like I live off of LinkedIn right so I like to put my creme DEA creme there I don't really take many chances on LinkedIn anymore I think that's a little bit you know I might be speaking out of both sides in my mouth where I say like okay you know on one hand do whatever you want but like at this point you know 80,000 followers I'm like I got to be a little bit more targeted in what I'm doing not just like throw out some random stuff to see if it works I use Twitter now more as like a testing ground like let me post a couple times a day because you
Play from 1:01:28 don't number one you don't get dinged for it like you do on ledin you don't get dinged from the algorithm for posting more than once a day you can kind of go and be a little bit crazier on on something like Twitter you don't have to be as sort of professional in that sense maybe you do maybe you don't whatever I I tend to be a little bit more you know kind of conflict Zone in in Twitter but you know you start going and you see like okay if I'm posting five posts on Twitter each day or something like that and one it's like let me take that onto LinkedIn and then I'll you know either build the content specific for LinkedIn or whatnot it's just like typically if it works on one platform it works on all the others that's a little secret like if you if it goes viral on one it goes viral on all of them that's that's it really doesn't really doesn't discriminate because you
Play from 1:02:13 hit something that makes sense it's not just you got lucky with the algorithm um you know if you have something that works also I think we should probably talk about that on on verality like some of the things that that work some of the things that you've seen that of work I think this is this is interesting CU there's not sometimes there's a science to it sometimes there's not but often times there is like I think there's yeah yeah I don't know do you like have you noticed any let's talk Twitter first have you noticed things on Twitter that tend to outperform other things for you or like in a specific format or specific like content type still really early for me I'm not sure just yet I you know going back to the point of like repurposing using things that I've already created
1:02:15Data-Driven Social Growth
Play from 1:02:59 maybe I update it right like I've been going back to my archive or library of just things that I've created and I'm like oh this was a good one right like and is it still relevant now yeah or do I need to update this or that yeah or do I just need to change out the images because maybe these images were for V 5.2 and I went to update them 6 okay like cool you know um and I've seen those do those have been the most effective for me um you know like I'll give you just an example right and I think sometimes this is a reminder too kind of a surprising reminder you know like the I think the post that did the best for me so far on X was just about camera angles and Midjourney so good though you know right
Play from 1:03:44 it's just like that was something we've been talking about forever you know it's and I wouldn't even say it's like that's not expert this is no secret at this point right like we people us everybody's been talking about that so sometimes that beginner content still does really really well there still a ton of beginners I still a ton of beginners yeah I feel in the game generally speaking yeah sometimes I need to go back cuz I used to do that I used to that used to be a for anyone you know being totally candid about my strategy here I used to run about 15 straight guides in a row for Mid it was like a mini course I would take a new audience through it and then as soon as I got to the end I would hope to you know I had built up enough equity and verality over grp it was a way structure cont
Play from 1:04:33 so you know a really big impression post then you kind of like lead them through the Journey of be you know understanding stuff so what what about you man I I I feel like and I have a guess but like because we've talked about it too I know when you first started kind of sprinkling in some of the AI video stuff the runway stuff you know you were hitting almost every time with that stuff yeah and it was just like okay bro I think you need to you need to lean into that too because that's even more wide open you know than the AI image gen at that point because right it had the phases right you had the the large language models the chat gbt stuff then you know you get a little bit further away from that and this AI image gen there's not a lot of people talking about that and then you go a little bit further off to that side with video and
Play from 1:05:19 no one's really educating on it people might be talking about it but not enough people are really educating on it and so all that works for you I think um anytime you've you know you've had a couple really viral posts go with the video stuff anything that you do with the video stuff even right now we're just talking about the Pikachu thing that saw a stage in Europe last week you you shared that with me before you sent it I was like bro this is epic but you know like I feel like the video stuff is really really hitting good right now for you what else uh is there are there any formats or any other topics or categories or approaches that that you're seem to see a lot of success with I do like I do like the the video formats for like kind of utilizing two tools together like you to me utilizing
Play from 1:06:04 two tools and like showing people that it doesn't have to be one like all or nothing I like that which is why like I could put like I could make a video right of what I generated in Runway but that's only half the story like the other half of the story is how much time I spent in Midjourney curating that image talk like figuring out how to get that image right like and then also building the consistency for the other images to make it look like that so like I think you you miss half the story if you're just posting what you did on the video side cuz if you're using image references a lot of time you're generating them that's that's more of the work than the video is right so like I always wanted to make that known in my videos also while being in tall format that it was like this had to happen first because look our bread and butter is selling Midjourney stuff too to keep
Play from 1:06:50 our lives going so people love workflows people love workflows and that's the reality too right like we're this podast is focused on you know Midjourney is in the title right yes but there's not a there aren't a lot of things where everything's just done in Midjourney and that's it right you you do need to you know there are things that go into the process before you get into Midjourney after you get into Midjourney other tools things you stack the workflow your mindset right so this goes beyond that and I think when you start to share tools on tools or that workflow that becomes much more interesting because it tells a story of how you thought about it how you iterated on it and how you finished it right what the output was it's the best best way you can put it I think is you show like a you show like a fully thought out process that solves a problem that's
Play from 1:07:35 probably iter iterable you know so like someone could see that and be like oh it's not for storyboarding for you know this stupid AI organic social post like I have to do that for my Ad Agency I have to do like a you know a previs sort of look at what I'm going to do for one of my clients like I can take that and apply it or mold and manipulate it a little bit 100% but still like the we we about this all the time the base the base understanding is the core line is the core functionality of the tools when you know what you can do what you can't do then you can go build workflows right it's that's the thing but that's that's the the the biggest the biggest viral post to me was the dumbest thing I've ever done I did a long form video where I was just playing with Runway and I was like oh this is cool like I made this whole video of a guy climbing a mountain simple story but it was just like I strung together consistent images to
Play from 1:08:22 make like a little film it did moderately okay like it wasn't n great it was probably like 40 50,000 Impressions nothing special and then I took three I took three clips from that just three short 5-second clips and then showed what I motion to brush when Runway had motion brush you painted certain areas and then like you you know you hit uh generate it would animate only the areas you painted I did these three it was like a clip of a bird a clip of a car and a clip of leaves blowing in the wind and like on the top half it was showing the showing like the painting of what I was pain painting and then I would hit generate and then you'd see the image move and it was just like that that went so out of control I still see it today and I'm just like the bird the bird I was like
Play from 1:09:08 I and I did it in 15 minutes because I had to get a post out before I was running to like someone's birthday party like a you know kid's birthday party christening something like that it's like a let me just fix this and cap cut real quick to push send left just didn't even know came back it was like why does my phone have like six th notifications on it it was like it was that on Twitter like like did did I go viral for the wrong reason too you're just like did I do something wrong like I caught on camera little little anxiety kicks in because you're not really sure which side of the spectrum you're on but uh hey bro before we W Wonder go ahead I was going to say one last thing before before we go into this don't hope for verality because it sucks half the time maybe more than that like it's it's awesome when it happens and it's all
Play from 1:09:54 good but sometimes goes wrong and you just get peppered by the worst kind of people at every step of the way and you do not feel it does not make you feel great I don't care who you are like it does not make you feel good most people come in without any context of who you are or what you've done so they don't see the two years of posting that you've done on the same exact topic there you have any context so if it happens to you just know you're probably going to get blasted a little bit by people and they you know just it does suck like I I feel it I don't know if anyone else if you're you might be like a psychopath if you don't like yeah dude that's that's great advice you know like yeah don't go chasing the virality it'll it'll happen uh it'll happen when you least expect it yeah yeah so yeah most of the time it's when you least expect it I was going to say you know before we sign off do
Play from 1:10:40 should we just go through Midjourney office hours notes I mean there's not a lot so I feel like we can jam this in but there are a couple things worth mentioning so first things first V7 they announced it unlikely to release before Christmas you know that kind of sucks uh I think we we were hoping to see something this year uh that means it release it on Christmas night or something like that so we can't play with it you know like yeah could be stay tuned for that you know it's always at the worst time uh one one note about that though worth mentioning V7 uh character reference supposed to be a lot lot better I think that's long overdue because you've started to see these other other models primarily using M flux for example where you can just get way way way better consistency so that'll be exciting video model not a
1:10:45Midjourney Updates & News
Play from 1:11:28 lot to update you on other than the fact that they're still working on it will be compatible with older Midjourney models as well and that it's not text to video it's image to video so obviously you're taking images from Midjourney or maybe maybe even external I have no idea and then putting those into video format and then just lastly upcoming features 3D got delayed personalization profiles they're working on multi- profiles coming soon don't have a lot of details on what that looks like like organization though I was surprised to see this new workspace style organization feature is in development nice long overdue because remember they were saying hey we're just not focused on organization right now we got oh I read that differently okay that's how you think it's it's going be like more in the organized page I I think so yeah
Play from 1:12:14 I was thinking more like the uh like Infinite Canvas from um from idiogram and like what Korea is doing with like their Infinite Canvas kind situation could be bro could be interesting yeah that that that's actually a really great point so could be and and maybe that actually might be the the more reasonable thing just because I do remember them not saying you know that archive organizational space yeah that was that was going to be a lower priority couple other quick things expanded grid they're going to roll out that batch eight format which we've talked about on this podcast before right instead of four Images you're going to have the maybe the choice or the default to go to eight and then color control something we've been wanting you can't get extreme consistency right now with hex codes pantones um even what we talked about in
Play from 1:13:01 the previous episode where you've got name colors right sh Williams Sherwin Williams is that was that a little you know nugget I don't know but uh they're working on a uh control for that scheduled for the release after V7 so they did say that they're talking a lot about v7.1 to because they want to get V7 out and not everything's going to make it into V7 so interesting just give it to me you know didn't this happen didn't didn't they drop V that was the same thing with V6 and six1 last year yeah wasn't it December yeah it was yeah it was December December yeah yeah cuz I remember I I went to uh I was talking to I had that chat in Bangkok on stage and I was like I told everyone I'm like this
Play from 1:13:48 is probably going to be all different in two weeks so take it and leave it like Midjourney like the next day was like V6 is live oh I remember that dude yeah we we we were laughing about that one yeah it's I can't believe it's been a how the hell has it been a year since that you know what I was just thinking about too I was in New York around this time last year that was when we did the when we met up and we did the the night out that was a year that's right damn dude yeah like you know who knew we'd be 20 weeks into a podcast at this point right that's yeah that's what I can't believe it was that this is so cuz you were talking you said something about was it was it you know what happened when I was okay here's what happened personal is it no style tuner came out when I was there that's it style tuner came out I was there yeah yeah it was so
Play from 1:14:35 good CU we were laughing about that I was like dude something you know if something's GNA happen while while I'm here it happened we didn't even get a chance to play with it we were just talking about it at dinner we're just like they be hung over the next day not be able to like actually you know put our brains to it just like slug through uh yeah Midjourney Midjourney hey hey but if anybody from Midjourney happens to hear this or anybody that knows somebody personally at Midjourney we would love to get somebody for Midjourney on this podcast whether that's David or somebody else from the team um you know selfishly but also selfishly for you guys because I think outside of their office hours there's not a lot of Pub there's no media coverage there's no one asking them questions there's no sort of free
Play from 1:15:21 sharing outside of that one hour and man i''d be it'd be great if we could make that happen on this show um just seeing as you know like this really is the only show dedicated toward that and and maybe we can get a partnership going where somebody can share a little bit that'd be cool and also if you guys anyone knows like a janitor that works there maybe like a delivery man anything so we can get some sort of info we just get we we're just we're you know knocking on a knocking on an empty door it seems like or knocking on an empty house at this point we trying to get in touch with anyone there so nobody hey you you know if anyone got any ideas they just they just don't care about us unfortunately what the hell thought you guys loved us hey man it always fun always blast
Play from 1:16:07 chatting with you um anything else you want to say before we go I think that's it just little little subscribe little maybe like And subscribe everyone please thank you if you enjoyed this if you enjoyed this content with with drw and Rory please there go subscribe love you guys I hope everybody uh by the time you hear this hope you had a great Thanksgiving and uh we'll be back next week with another great episode thanks for checking in and we'll see you guys in the next one rock and roll later
